Action plan

What will be done, and by whom it will be done by?

 The roles of people we have in our group are; Rudi as the camera man 2 and director, James as camera man 1, Lee as the main actor, and Danny as the editor and actor. Originally there was going to be a script but now we decided not to have one.

When will it be done?

 We have 3 weeks to complete our task in which we have to do our production and editing. On Saturday the 3^rd of December we will be finishing our 1st draft of the film. Then gain feedback to develop our film.

What specific resources are available for our film production?

Tasks we have done:

• Script/Dialogues- No Script. It's a silent film, the dialogues is conveyed through pure facial emotions.

• Plot Outline- Helped out via group discussion (Rudi Sampat/James Rose/Danny O'Neill/Lee Arnold).
• Selected Movie influences annotations/screen shots- Completed by Rudi Sampat.
• Location Shots- Completed by Rudi Sampat.
• Focus Group Feedback on influential films- Completed by Danny O'Neill and Lee Arnold. 
• Pitch for Potential film- Completed by Danny O'Neill/Lee Arnold/Rudi Sampat/James Rose.
• Storyboard Photographs - Complete by Rudi Sampat
• Location Permission- No permission needed, filmed at Rudi Sampat's Garage.
• Parental Consent- No children needed in the film, only people within our group.

Influential sets and mise-en-scene

Planning for Million Dollar Punch 

We will film 'Million Dollar Punch' in Rudi's Garage as it is dark, similar to where most fighting films are set in. In our research we found the likely place where illegal boxing would take place is a warehouse, the garage is the closet setting we can get to this.

 One idea we have is to spray water onto both Lee and Danny as they are the fighters, this will look like sweat and make the fight seem that bit more realistic.

 Another way we plan to add realism is to have red food colouring on the fighters, this will hopefully look like blood and show the fight to be tough and violent, like a real illegal fight.

The garage will be very dark but we are going to use lamps and adjust them till they only shine light onto the fighters, we think this will give a very good effect.

 When researching into illegal fighting I found a very good source, which is a Video game called 'MMA Supremacy' this focuses entirely around illegal fighting and puts gamers in control of an underground fighter who is trying to achieve fame, very similar to our plot for 'Million Dollar Punch'. These are some images that I have looked at of 'MMA Supremacy'These have given me a better idea of how our setting and fight can look like:

Rocky III/IV/V 2 minute analysis

ROCKY III:
- Shows studio company logo at very start of movie (United Artists).
- Second company logo shown at start (MGM productions), during which soft music starts to play.
- Fades into directors name 'sylvester Stallone' / who produced it'Robert Chartoff
Irwin Winkler'
- Voice over is conveyed and states "It's blind instinct.
          But now it is Creed coming back with the left hand!
          What's keeping these two guys up? A tremendous closing moment!
          Here comes Balboa back, but the champion's back with another left". during the name of director.
- Crowd noise is inserted to set the mood.
- Prop shown of champioship belt, to show the superiority of the fighter.
- Theme music starts when name of movie enters from the start.
- Music gets more intense.
- Font of title is simple, but big and bold.
- Fades into previous movie of fight.
- Shows fighting straight away.
- Scars and bruises shown, from long distance shot.
- Second shot is from a worms eye view + Low angle shot and shows man falling to the ground.
- Women screams to show shock.
- Referee counts down to suggest rush.
- Boxers struggleing to get up, shown from a high angle shot.

- Crowd shown from different perspectives to show the range of people there.
- Music starts with a major key tone, to convey happiness of the win.

ROCKY IV:

- Music sets a tone of intesnity.
- Gloves appear/ props shown to give a clear perspective of what it is about.
- Music gets louder, could represent punches from boxers.
- Each glove has the flag of both countries U.S.A and the Russian flag, to represent who's fighting and where they are from.
- Shows gloves clashing together, to show how big the fight is. Also shows explosion when gloves hit eachother.
- Goes straight into fight of previous movie.
- Shows a man shouting to repreent the inseity.
- Shows camera view from 1st person perspective, to show his reaction of the fight.
- Shows oppenent hitting the other from over shoulder shot.
- Shown 180 degree rule from outside the ring, to give the atmosphere a mood of exitment and to also involve the audience.
- Blood shown on the face.
- Man jumps to represent his win in the fight.
- Then fades into the movie, and shows name of film 'ROCKY IV' with simple font.

Shows props to give out a symbollic idea of power. Also shows extreme close up, good for detail.

ROCKY V:
- Shows production company logo at the very start of movie (united artists).
- Second production company logo shown at start (MGM productions)
- Fades into the name of the second production company.
- Font size is big and bold and has white colouring.
- Conveys crowd aswell as music into the title sequences.
- Director name is shown with the same consistent font size and colour.
- Actors names shown with same font size and colour.
- Music theme starts just after the first actor is named.
- Name of film appears from the side, sliding in from the right side of the screen.
- Font size is big and bold.
- Colour of font is replaced with video footage of past fight.
- Shows name of movie in white capital letters.
- Shows medium shot used on both characters.
- Shows a low angle perspective whilst having an over the shoulder shot but a lower version.
- Use of 180 degree, of the two boxers.
- More use of extreme close ups, to show all facial expressions.
- Names appear at the side of each actor.

Rocky IV

Questions:
These are the questions that ill be asking to our collegues, Rocky IV:

-How does the music make you feel? in the fight scene? and does the music affect the fight?

-What do you think are the good and bad points in this scene?

-How realistic is the fight and what are your reasons?

Feedback:
- Music give a sense of adrenilline and also goes reallu well with the tempo of the fight shown.
-The sound effects of the punching do not seem to fit the punches itself, almost dubbed punch effects.
-Puches looked fake therfore giving it an unrealistic view of filiming boxing.

Rocky III. Questions and Feedback

Questions:
these are the questions im going to be asking the class about the first two minutes of Rocky III

1. What impressions does this give of the person that has the belt?
2. The fighting in this scene is slow, do you think this is effective and why?

Feedback:
1. The belt shows a sense of power and proess from the boxer who owns it.
2. The slow camera effects gives out an impression of tiredness from the boxers and also shows the puches clearly, but can easily see that the puches are fakely done.

We will use this feedback to help us make our movie by using props and different ways to use the camera to make our movie look better with the effects

Main Film Pitch Feedback

1. How are we going to show and set a fight scene?

• Use of dark background then light up a certain area to create a spotlight.
• Use of decent location.
• Important to other films, to get an expierience of how to set a fight scene.

2. How are you going to start the film?

• We were thinking of starting the film with flasback of the fighting event, to show the story in a short view.
• Have text, to brief the audiece on what is going to happen. But make sure the text is a suitable size and font.
• Rather than have text have a voice over explaining what is about to happen, then opening scene shows 'the fight'.

3. How are we going to do the make- up?

• Try to go on youtube. You can find make-up turtorials on there.
• Group member know contacts for make-up artists.

Can you explain the 180-degree rule?

T the 180 degree rule is when the camera man stays one side of the people he is videoing and doesn’t switch sides as the audience would get confused who is who.

·  What role did you play in the making of the preliminary task?  (e.g.  filming, acting, editing, equipment organisation etc.)

A acted as the hitman.

·  How would you assess your contribution to the group?

I played the part as the main character and helped in writing the script for myself.

 What have you learned from the process of making your preliminary film?

I feel more confident in acting for when the main task is brought to us as we had a few cock ups in the preliminary task but in the end got a good video.
